ILLAWARRA GREENS EMPLOYMENT AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS POLICY SUMMARY
Wollongong is missing out on the economic ‘good times’ we hear about from other parts of Australia. Instead we have
• high levels of unemployment, particularly among the young and older workers
• family life disrupted by three hour + trips to work in Sydney each day.

Young workers are being exploited, and, as Work Choices starts to bite, this is spreading throughout the workforce.

Unemployment and disadvantage are destroying communities through problems of health and crime.

The Greens would:

Save the remaining land providing for employment

Instead of converting industrial and agricultural land to housing, keep it productive.

Promote transition to a new, sustainable economy

Where old industries close down, start ‘incubator spaces’ for small businesses and emerging sustainable industries in renewable energy, arts and technology.
