Council Restructure Proposal: The Greens believe that Wollongong and Shellharbour are ill served by the present preferential system of local government voting. A proportional representation system is available that would allow a fairer, more representative make up of Councils. Click this page to read more.

28th February – NSW Greens direct action workshop for climate change – 9.30-4.00, 19 Eve St, Erskineville. Organised by Lee Rhiannon MP:

2009 is a crunch year for climate change campaigning.Instead of listening to community demands for real action on climate change, government leaders are facilitating massive growth of the coal industry.

We must act now. The momentum for peaceful direct action is growing. Come along to the workshop to skill up, meet people and prepare for a busy year of action on climate change.

A practical workshop on peaceful direct action including sessions on planning actions, legal rights, media for actions, group decision-making, role plays and story-telling from successful campaigns.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre is again conducting training days on Human Rights, with a focus on the Australian context for the Federal government public consultation. The one-day workshop will help anyone who is interested in understanding and speaking out about human rights. It covers the principles underpinning human rights, international human rights systems, gaps in protection in Australia, models of protection and the debate for and against protection in Australia.
