Dear fellow Illawarra Greens

*GONG-GATE - NEVER AGAIN!*
Saturday 6th September, 1-3pm, Aboriginal Cultural Centre, 22 Kenny St,
Wolllongong.

Join Lee Rhiannon at this public forum to talk about how to make sure the
Council corruption and incompetence uncovered this year never happens
again.

What role do political donations play in decision-making? Do we need to
overhaul the structure of our councils? Do our political and public
sectors need an ethical framework? Who’s going to investigate corruption
if ICAC is being gagged?

Some of the ideas which have been proposed by the Greens and other
community groups since the sacking of Wollongong and Shellharbour
Councils:

* The Greens in Parliament have been pushing for a ban on developer
donations to politicians and parties;

* The Illawarra Greens have developed a proposal for structural reform of
Wollongong and Shellharbour Councils (see the attached documents);

* Today the group Wollongong Against Corruption, with representation from
areas as far as Newcastle, the Blue Mountains, Hilltop and the
Eurobodalla, agreed to adopt a Charter for Ethics and Good Governance;

* Many groups, including the Greens, are calling for a Royal Commission
into the corruption in Wollongong and its links to the State Government.

We’ll look at these proposals in more detail and decide how to work
towards a corruption-free Illawarra.
