INVITATION TO A GREEN BRAINSTORM

As Illawarra Greens, we feel we have been focused on elections and
government for nearly three years now.

To revitalise ourselves and the organisation, we have arranged a meeting for Sunday afternoon June 1st,
to explore and generate ideas for local actions we can do to help preserve the planet in a condition that can sustain humanity and other species.

The threats to society are global:
. climate change,
. peak oil,
. loss of species, and
. faltering global food production

Social injustice and increasing violence seem almost inevitable outcomes of these developments.

Action needs to be taken at all levels, from individual households tonational governments and on to international cooperation to avert the severe risk of disaster for us humans on this earth.

We would like to invite Greens members and others who feel strongly about these issues to contribute to a discussion of priority areas and ideas for local action.

The venue is the ACON building 18 Ellen St Wollongong and the start time is 2.00pm.

Picnic in The Park

11am, Sunday 18th May

Belmore Basin, Wollongong

If you care about our beautiful harbour, send a strong message to the Government that it is not for sale.

* Our harbour is a playground for our kids –

Not just a mooring for the yachts of the rich and famous

* Flagstaff Hill needs our protection –

Not another ‘tourist attraction’

* We don’t need another cosy land deal with developers –

Our harbour belongs to the community, lets keep it that way!

RIVERS OF SHAME 2 - FILM LAUNCH

April 7th, 2008
May 8, 2008
1:00 pm

Thursday 8th May
You are invited to the launch of our new film Rivers of Shame 2 on Thursday May 8 at the State Parliament Theatrette at 1pm.

This film is the sequel to our very successful 2006 film Rivers of Shame, and further highlights the issue of mining impacts on rivers in NSW. More importantly this new film covers the damages to swamps, springs, soaks and aquifers as well as rivers, and completes the story of the damage to our river systems and other water supplies across the state. This effectivly joins all stakeholders including our forty community groups, farmers, grape growers, graziers and horse breeders currently lobbying the government individually about the mining damages to water supplies.

The film runs for 30 mins, to be followed by a discussion session. Copies of the film will be available by pre-ordering for $4 each from Maurice Blackwood at mozzieb@ispdr.net.au or 46327 506 or 0417 218462.

It will be preceded by a protest activity in Macquarie St outside Parliament House from 12.15.

We hope you can make it.
